A theoretical analysis of the surface deformation of an electrically charged thermoplastic film is given. Simple expressions are derived which relate the spatial harmonics characterizing the deformation and growth rate of the deformation with the surface charge density, film thickness, and material constants of the thermoplastic. The necessary conditions for the occurrence of the deformation are discussed.
