The effects on intraocular pressure (IOP) of Org NC 45, an analogue of pancuronium with a rapid onset of action and fast recovery, were evaluated in 15 ASA class I and II patients undergoing elective eye surgery. IOP fell by 21 % after induction with thiopentone and rose only slightly after administration of NC45, 0.1 mg/kg and intubation. However, in the 5‐min period following intubation, during which the patients received only nitrous oxide in oxygen, prior to administration of halothane and fentanyl, IOP was still significantly less than during the pre‐induction control period.
