Abstract

Lignins obtained by delignification of Pinus pinaster and Eucalyptus globulus wood with acetic acid were characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR and 1 H and 13 C NMR spectroscopy. Eucalyptus lignin was found to be of type GS4 and pine lignin of type G. The observed structural differences explain the difference between their reactivities with formaldehyde. Both reactivities were low, however, making these lignins poor raw materials for the preparation of adhesives.
