Co/Pt and Co/Pd ultrathin-multilayered films as new magneto-optical recording materials

Co/Pt and Co/Pd multilayer films were prepared by magnetron-type sputtering. Both multilayer films exhibited perpendicular magnetic anisotropy at Co layer <or approximately=10 AA. When the film thickness is below 1000 AA, an enhancement of the Kerr rotation angle, an increase of the Kerr remanence to saturation ratio, and an increase of the coercive force are observed. These properties are quite suitable for magnetooptic recording materials.<<ETX>>
