Resonance Raman and far‐infrared studies of charge‐transfer complexes of iodine

Abstract

Abstract The reactions of I 2 with phenazine (PH), acridine (AC) and hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA) have been investigated by resonance Raman and far‐infrared spectroscopy. The results indicate that the species (PH) 2 I + I 3 − , (AC) 2 I + I 3 − and (HMTA) 2 I + I 3 − are formed. However, the 1:1 adduct I 2 . PH is also produced and this can be obtained in relatively pure form by recrystallization.
