Effects of impurities on the formation of the strong (110)[001] texture in silicon-iron were studied. It was observed that the temperature range in which the (110)[001] texture forms can be increased by varying the type and amount of impurity. The temperature at which the (110)[001] texture forms is proposed to be determined by the solubility of the impurity. The authors also propose that the strong (110)[001] texture develops in silicon-iron because (110)[001] grains possess lower free energy even at the increased temperatures than grains in other orientations.
