ABSTRACT The dewaterability of pulp and paper sludges is usualy poor. In this study, biological sludge samples from two pulp and paper mills were conditioned with three cationic polyelectrolytes that have similar molecular weights and different charge densities. Cationic polyelectrolyte of high charge density could efficiently enhance sludge dewaterability and markedly reduce the residual moisture content in the dewatered cake. On the other hand, the introduction of seawater to pulp and paper sludge would increase the demand of the cationic polyelectrolyte. Acknowledgments
