The preliminary in vitro cell cultures and biodegradation tests reported in this paper confirm that the new inorganic−organic hybrid ceramers prepared by the sol−gel process are novel biomaterials endowed with biodegradable and biocompatible properties. These preliminary results are not only encouraging but also pave the way to entirely new biomaterials that combine characteristic properties of classical materials, such as ceramics and organic polymers.
