Alcohol extracts of different parts of the traditionally used Indian medicinal plant Nyctanthus arbortristist are reported to possess antiallergic activity. Arbortristoside A and C were isolated from this plant and tested for anti-passive cutaneous anaphylaxis (PCA) and mast cell stabilizing activity. Both compounds demonstrated significant anti-PCA and mast cell stabilizing activity in rats, which is comparable with that of disodium cromoglycate.
