Abstract

THE control of infectious hepatitis still remains one of the most perplexing problems in preventive medicine. Progress in this field has been retarded by many gaps in the knowledge of the natural history of the disease. What is the period of infectivity of infectious hepatitis? What is the role of inapparent infection in its spread? A precise answer to these and many other questions is difficult because of the lack of a specific laboratory test for the identification of the virus.
