Thrombophlebitis of the superficial dorsal vein of the penis, “Mondor's disease” of the penis, is a rare peripheral venous disease. The causes are interesting and multifactorial, including sexual trauma, tourniquet effect produced by occlusive devices applied to the penis, venipuncture, and local infection. We found that doppler examination of the superficial dorsal vein of the penis, using a “percussion maneuver,” is very useful for detecting patency and following the course of recannalization. In the acute stage, we found local paravenous infiltration of 0.5% Marcain to be effective in prompt relief of symptoms.
