SPONTANEOUS HYPOGLYCEMIA IN CHILDHOOD

Abstract

Three years ago, I reported under the title "Recurrent Vomiting"¹a number of cases in which there was a greater or less degree of hypoglycemia. Since that time, I have had occasion to see four more such cases, two of them fatal. <h3>REPORT OF CASES</h3> Case1.—During infancy, a diagnosis of hereditary syphilis was made in D. S., a colored girl, aged 4 years, and the child was treated with a brand of sulpharsphenamine. The Wassermann reaction became negative by the end of the first course of six treatments, and thereafter remained negative. When she was 3½ years old, she had an attack of pneumonia which ran a short uncomplicated course. At this time her liver was found to be enlarged, but there was no mention of jaundice.
