Abstract The use of primary care services by three matched groups of people with intellectual disabilities was compared over a period of one year. Differences in the patterns of provision were detected between hospital intellectual disability specialists and general practitioners. The degree of behavioural disturbance and disability of the subjects were found to be the most important predictors of primary care contact.
