Intracranial cavernous hemangiomas of the optic chiasm or optic nerves have so far been reported six times. The presenting clinical feature is an acute or subacute visual deterioration, caused by hemorrhage. In a further case the authors describe, the exophytic part of the cavernous hemangioma of the optic chiasm was removed. Postoperatively vision slightly improved. MR-imaging proved to be of high diagnostic value. Endocrinological evaluation revealed an alteration of the hypothalamo-hypophyseal axis which recovered after surgery.
