Abstract

XPS has been used to study the nature of the films formed on Fe surfaces by molecules containing the –COOH grouping. The corrosion inhibitive properties of these films in SO2 containing atmospheres is related both to the nature of the adsorption bond and to the orientation of the molecule on the surface.
