Cathodic corrosion has been successfully applied to obtain well-dispersed core–shell tin/tin oxide nanoparticles in room temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) for the first time. RTILs served as a reactant, and to some extent, solvents and electrolytes as well, avoiding the use of nocuous organic solvents.
