Ferroelectric liquid crystal cells with a high degree of bistability were prepared using the polyimide LB film as the aligning layer. The plots of the threshold voltages ( V th ) and the pulse widths ( Δ t ), which were necessary to switch between the bistable states under the application of bipolar pulse voltages, displayed a hyperbola which was asymptotic to Δ t =0 and V th =constant (≠0).
