Abstract

Reaction of rhodium(I) with a multidentate hemilabile bisphosphine ligand yields a two-legged piano-stool complex whose steric and electronic factors stabilize rhodium(II) upon chemical oxidation. The inherent stabilizing properties of the ligand system allow for the first structural isolation of a novel mononuclear organometallic rhodium(II) complex in a two-legged piano-stool geometry.
