Lately, wavelets have received considerable attention in the electromagnetics (EM) community. They have been applied as basis functions for the efficient solution of EM integral equations and partial-differential equations (PDEs) in the form of Maxwell's equations. Despite hundreds of books and thousands of articles available on the subject, the concept of wavelets can be intimidating to a beginner. This is due to the fact that much of the current literature uses highly sophisticated mathematical terms. The aim of this article is to provide a clear, simple introduction to this exciting field to meet the needs of microwave engineering researchers who may wish to apply wavelet analysis to their work.
