Abstract

Abstract Successful and economic drilling of highly deviated wells requires the efficient transportation of cut rock to the surface. This paper uses computer simulations of fluid flow and particle transport to investigate whether the removal of rock cuttings is greatly enhanced by toroidal vortices generated by the rotation of the drill-string.
