Synthesis and properties of fluorine‐containing heterocyclic compounds. II. trifluoromethyl benzo[h]quinolines, benzo[h]‐1,6‐napthyridines, 1,7‐ and 1,10‐phenanthrolines

Abstract Four heterocyclic rings containing the trifluoromethpl group have been prepared by the reductive, dehalogenation of the corressponding chloro compounds. These were obtained from the hydroxy derivativexs which, in turn, were formed in the condensation of ethyl trifluoroacetoacetate with 1‐naphthylaminc and some substituted aminoquinolines. Spectral data were used to ascertain the position of the hydroxyl group in the hydroxy derivatives. In one case, the position of this group was established by an independent synthesis.
