ABSTRACT The work recorded in this paper is a continuation and amplification of the study of alimentary function in the fowl begun by MacOwan and Magee (1931) and, like it, deals with the passage of food through, and the absorption of carbohydrates from, the digestive tract. The technique employed in the study of these questions was varied, and it has, accordingly, been found convenient for descriptive purposes to divide the paper into two parts.
