Abstract

The mutagenicity of the aflatoxine (B1, B2, G1, and G2), 1,2,3,4-diepoxycyclohexane, 1,2,4,5-diepoxypentane, 1,2,7,8-diepoxyoctane, ethylenimine, 1-naphthylamine, 2-naphthylamine, 1-naphthylhydroxylamine, and 2-naphthylhydroxylamine was tested with the ad -3 system of Neurospora crassa in an attempt to determine whether their reported carcinogenicity in laboratory mammals is correlated with their mutagenic activity in Neurospora . The results of the tests reported in this paper show that there is a positive correlation between carcinogenicity and mutagenicity of the compounds tested.
