Abstract For determining the degree of ion binding in polyelectrolyte solutions the polarograhic method of analysis was applied. The polyelectrolyte studied was cadmiumpolystyrenesulphonate. Polarograms were run of solutions as well with the supporting electrolyte. The extent of ion binding was obtained by assuming that only free, i.e. unbound ions contribute to the diffusion and migration currents, respectively. For reasons of comparison solutions of cadmium p ‐ethylbenzenesulphonate were also studied.
