this paper we will mainly deal with problems situated at the second level, we will give some promising results on the analysis of percussion mixed with (synthetic) music. Another motivation for concentrating on the second level is that recently (Virtanen, 2001) it was shown possible to extract drum tracks from musical audio by subtracting the harmonic parts from the signal
