Abstract Copolymerization of 1,3‐dioxolane with tetrahydrofuran, 3,3‐bis(chloromethyl)oxacyclobutane, and 4‐chloromethyl‐1,3‐dioxolane were performed using boron fluoride etherate as catalyst. The monomer reactivity ratios at 0°C. were determined. The plot of log 1/r 1 vs. pK b of each monomer gave a straight line, which suggests that basicity of cyclic ethers may be important in determining monomer reactivity ratios in their cationic copolymerization.
