A series of palladium(<sc>ii</sc>) persistent radical carbene complexes, [PC˙(sp<sup>2</sup>)P]PdX (X = Cl, Br, I), was synthesized from the nucleophilic carbene [PC(sp<sup>2</sup>)P]PdPMe<sub>3</sub>.
