Abstract The synthesis of N‐acryloyloxy‐ and N‐methacryloyloxyphthalimides were accomplished in fair yield by reaction of acryloyl and methacryloyl chlorides with N‐hydroxyphthalimide in the presence of triethylamine. The resulting monomers were polymerized. The ability of the prepared activated polymers to enter exchange reactions with hydroxylated compounds and amines was tested.
