A sap-transmissible virus causing a mosaic disease was isolatedin several differ- ent places in the Ivory Coast on IR 8' and 'Jaya' irrigated rices. This paper de- scr bes ii:e bloivgical properties, host rsnge, purification. physico- chaniicd prqerties and serology of this 28-nm diameter isometric virus. These results and the reaction of the virus to the rice yellow mottle virus antiserum allow us to conclude that the virus isolated in the Ivory Coast is a strain of the rice yellow mottle virus (RYMV) isolated in Kenya.
