Abstract

A monolithic nanoporous silver catalyst is developed to achieve a better performance than platinum at very low overpotentials for oxygen reduction reaction in alkaline conditions. Benefiting from the reaction-promoting electrode architecture and the enhanced surface area, such a nanoporous silver catalyst exhibits a threefold improved overall activity compared to that of commercial state-of-the-art platinum carbon catalysts at 0.90 V versus RHE.
