Abstract

In major accidents and disasters, especially in those with a high load of traumatized patients, it is of course important that every surgeon has a good basic education and training in trauma and emergency care. Is this not good enough? Do we really need to provide special training for surgeons in disaster management as well? In fact, a prerequisite for coping with major accidents and disasters is that all staff involved have knowledge in this field, in addition to knowledge and skills in trauma and emergency procedures that are used daily and routinely. The following skills and abilities are required to meet the special demands of these situations:
