The cathodoluminescence emission and decay properties of phosphors were investigated to determine their suitability for use in flying spot cathode ray tubes. The thiogallate phosphors exhibit radiant efficiencies as high as 7.0% and their fluorescence decays to 1% of initial brightness in 1.3–1.55 µsec. Strontium thiogallate phosphors with decay times as short as 0.6 µsec were obtained by compositional modifications. Maintenance measurements indicate that is more stable in CRT applications than .
