Frequency of earthquakes in California*

Abstract

Estimates of the frequency of destructive shocks in California have usually been
\nbased on the very imperfect historical record. The present note attempts to revise
\nthese estimates by statistical comparison of earthquake frequency in California
\nwith that of the world as a whole.
