Abstract

Abstract The adsorption of oxygen on the silver (110) face has been studied by low energy electron diffraction, Auger spectroscopy and surface potential measurements. Slow, irreversible adsorption (initial sticking probability about 0.003) is observed at room temperature, which increases the work function by 0.44 eV. A sequence of extra diffraction features accompanies this change. The oxygen Auger signal from such a surface is very weak.
