Abstract

Pulmonary ventilation, as assessed by either routine spirometry or fluorodensitometry, can be more simply and easily obtained using video-densitometry. The conversion of an optical fluoroscopic image into an electronic signal allows accurate measurement of changing radiographic density due to ventilation. This technique minimizes the time and effort required of both the patient and the examining physician and potentially offers a routine screening evaluation for pulmonary ventilation abnormalities.
