Modification of phonon processes in nanostructured rare-earth-ion-doped crystals

Abstract

Phonon processes in doped crystals might be suppressed by nanotailoring phononic structures. The proposed scheme increases the lifetime of spin states, having important implications for quantum memories in rare-earth-ion crystals.
