Guard cells of Vicia faba maintain a negative membrane potential (MP). They hyperpolarize in the light and depolarize in the dark. The light-induced hyperpolarization is eliminated by adding the uncoupler, carbonyl cyanide m-chlorophenyl hydrazone, or ABA but not by DCMTJ.
