Abstract

We introduce a modified interference cancellation scheme for multiuser detection in CDMA. This detector combines the successive and parallel interference cancellation concepts, and hence is called a hybrid interference canceller (HIC). In the HIC, the active users are split into a number of groups. Within each group, parallel detection is performed. Between the groups, serial cancellation is carried out. The performance is evaluated over both single-path and multipath channels and it is shown through simulation that the HIC detector has a performance close to the successive interference canceller, but with a much less detection delay. The detector also overcomes the "ping-pong" behaviour of the conventional parallel interference canceller at the cost of an additional detection delay.
