Electron microscopic findings in lung neoplasms usually obtained by needle biopsy are presented and illustrated. Alveolar cell carcinoma is described and illustrations are shown demonstrating that the neoplastic cell involved is an alveolar type II cell with peculiar intranuclear inclusions. It is suggested that the needle biopsy procedure and electron microscopy are highly useful in acquiring both diagnostic and possible pathogenetic information in pulmonary neoplasms.
