This squib investigates extraction from V2 clauses in varieties of Faroese, Icelandic, Norwegian, and Swedish. It is shown that these varieties divide in two. In one class, V2 always induces island effects; in the other, only non-subject-initial V2 does. It is concluded that whether or not V2 is an island depends on whether or not V2 is a root phenomenon.
