α-Enamino esters are synthesized from α-amino acid esters using Cu(<sc>ii</sc>)-promoted dehydrogenation. Application of the α-enamino esters to the synthesis of polysubstituted pyrroles is achieved through oxidative coupling with alkynes under Cu(<sc>ii</sc>)-promoted conditions.
