Prognostic significance of extranodal extension of regional lymph node metastasis in papillary thyroid cancer

Abstract

Presence of extranodal extension of metastatic nodes is a significant adverse independent prognostic factor for patients with lymph node metastasis from papillary cancer. This may need to be considered in future updates of the TNM system for thyroid cancer.
