Abstract Life cycle of A. ypsilon was studied at 22 ± 1°C and 65–70% R. H. Eggs laid on wire screen, larvae fed on castor oil leaves, pupa embeded in wood shavings and adults fed on honey. Their average durations were: egg = 4.9 ± 0.3; six larval stages = 6 ± 0, 5 ± 0.5, 4.6 ± 0.9, 4.3 ± 1.3, 5.6 ± 1.4, 4 ± 0.8; pupa = 21.3 ± 0.8, and adult = 20.1 ± 0.7 days in respect. Females life‐span is shared by the following periods in respect: 6 ± 0.9, 2 ± 1.3 and 9.7 ± 1.2 days for pre‐, post‐ and oviposition periods. Females fed on honey laid an average of 587.9 ± 126.9 eggs in capacity. Percentage of egg hatching was very high (90.8% ± 4.7).
