Mesoporous hybrid shells of TiO<sub>2</sub>/NiO were prepared by sequential coating of TiO<sub>2</sub> and NiO on SiO<sub>2</sub> nanospheres through a combined sol–gel and hydrothermal process followed by calcination and template removal.
