The discussers congratulate both of the authors for their clear presentation and discussion of the state-of-the-art; and they present an alternative strain approach to assessing liquefaction potential and the advantages of that approach. Although it is apparent that there are questions concerning this new approach that need to be answered and that a significant amount of research is still needed, the the discussers are confident that additional research will confirm the potential of the proposed method for improving the state-of-the-art.
