The inelastic scattering of thermal neutrons from liquid 3He at a temperature of 1.3K has been observed. It shows that well-defined excitations of the type found in 4He do not exist within the range of momentum transfers studied. The results also show discrepancies with calculations based on the random phase approximation as applied to 3He.
