Here, we report the one-pot synthesis of atomically precise gold nanoclusters – Au<sub>144</sub>(SCH<sub>2</sub>Ph)<sub>60</sub> with moderate efficiency (<italic>ca.</italic> 20% yield based on HAuCl<sub>4</sub>).
