Abstract

This paper presents new linear matrix inequality (LMI) conditions for stability, robust stabilization, and H/sub /spl infin// control of linear time-invariant descriptor systems. The conditions are expressed in terms of definite LMIs with no equality constraint, which are much more tractable and reliable in numerical computation than existing conditions, that is, definite LMIs with equality constraints or semidefinite LMIs. Using the results of this paper, we can analyze and design descriptor systems in the almost same way as in the case of state-space models, while sophisticated manipulations are needed to derive the new results.
