TLDR

Transportation, industry, and buildings together account for roughly 75 % of U.S. carbon emissions, with CO₂ from energy use in these sectors driving an expanding national footprint that accelerates global climate change.

Abstract

Transportation is responsible for one-third of the carbon emissions in the United states, industry is responsible for 28% of carbon emissions, and commercial and residential buildings account for 39% of the carbon emissions in the United States. Carbon dioxide is the most widely occurring greenhouse gas emitted in the United States, and it mainly comes from the energy utilized in transportation and buildings. Americans are driving more, consuming more energy, building more and emitting more carbon than ever before. The carbon footprint in the United States is expanding, and this expanding carbon footprint is speeding up global climate change. This paper discusses ways to decrease America's carbon footprint and thus help to slow down climate change. ... — states aims, objectives, or research question
