Abstract

Abstract Investigations of oxirane reactions with melamine are presented. N,N′‐diacetylmelamine, a compound having better solubility and reacting more easily with oxirane than melamine itself, has been used. By reacting N, N′‐diacetylmelamine with ethylene oxide and propylene oxide a number of polyetherols containing thermostable s‐triazine rings have been obtained. Some properties of the products have been examined. By simple analytical methods and IR and 1 H‐NMR spectroscopy the structure of the compounds has been confirmed.
